IT Training in the Community
Whether you are a complete novice and want to learn how to use your computer, beginning with even how to turn it on, then joining an Adult Education course at your local Community Centre or other Training Centre could be just the ticket.
Although sometimes if you are totally new to the world of computing, you might feel a bit inhibited and lacking in confidence and might not want others to know how inexperienced you actually are, learning alongside your peers is, in fact, a great way to get started. Not only are lasting friendships often formed in this way, but the team spirit is a great aid to the learning experience.
Wherever you live, be it a city, town or country village, there is bound to be a centre located near you where a variety of IT courses are held. These will include courses with such titles as 'Computers are Fun', 'Computers for Beginners', or even 'Computers For the Clueless'.
Whatever the title, such courses are a gentle introduction to the world of computing and introducing you to how to actually turn the computer on, familiarity with the keyboardlayout and how to get to grips with that pesky little mouse.
You will also find that many other other vocational and recreational courses are offered outside of the IT sphere. These could be anything from Jewellery Making, Sign Language, Guitar Playing, any number of Martial Arts sessions, Geneology, to subjects like English, Maths, French and, if you live in Wales, then there are also bound to be Welsh For Beginners courses if you do not already speak or write in that language.
You may even like to consider flexible learning via LearnDirect where you have a choice of more than 600 courses on any subject, and can learn when and where you wnat, at your own pace but with the backup of being able to drop into your local centre for one to one guidance and mentoring.
Joinining an IT or any other type of course is a great way of getting out of the house and meeting new friends. A good starting point to find out what is available is your local paper or via your local county
council.
For those of you who live within the Amman Valley area of South West Wales, Canolfan Maerdy in Tairgwaith offers a wide variety of courses, one of the main focuses being to retrain or build on existing skills to help you in your career path.
